The final volume of Rokurou Ōgaki’s manga adaptation of the original TV anime series Akudama Drive will be published in May, according to an announcement made on April 11. The manga is based on the anime series created by Too Kyo Games and Studio Pierrot.

Overview of the Anime and Manga

Akudama Drive is set in a dystopian future where two countries, Kantō and Kansei, were once at war. Eventually, Kansei becomes a vassal to Kantō, but the government and police force of Kansei begin to falter, leading to an increase in crime. Those who engage in criminal activities are known as “Akudama.” The anime premiered in Japan in October 2020, after being delayed from its original July 2020 release date. Funimation streamed the series in English, both with subtitles and with an English dub. The anime was also released on Blu-ray and DVD in November 2021.

Rokurou Ōgaki launched the manga adaptation of Akudama Drive in July 2020, which was published digitally by DeNIMO. The eighth volume of the manga was published on April 1, with the ninth and final volume scheduled for May. The manga is also available digitally in English on Renta!.

The Manga Creator

Rokurou Ōgaki has had several manga adaptations to his credit, including The Unlimited – Hyōbu Kyōsuke spinoff anime, which was published in Shogakukan’s Shōnen Sunday Super magazine from 2013 to 2015 in six volumes. He also co-created a two-chapter manga spinoff of Takashi Shiina’s Zettai Karen Children and The Unlimited – Hyōbu Kyōsuke stories called Hōrōsha, which was published in Shogakukan’s Shōnen Sunday S magazine in 2015.

Final Thoughts

The end of the Akudama Drive manga adaptation will mark the completion of a successful anime series and manga adaptation. Fans of the anime and manga will surely be sad to see it come to an end, but they can take comfort in the fact that there are other works by Rokurou Ōgaki for them to enjoy.
