We meet Yoo Ho-bin in the first episode of Viral Hit; he’s a young guy whose life is never easy because he has to balance working to pay for his mother’s cancer treatment with his studies. Classmates, and especially Woo Ji-hyuk, who is Yoo’s principal tormentor, bully him persistently no matter what Yoo does.
The first episode of Viral Hit gives a clear picture of Yoo’s daily struggles, showing the emotional and physical toll that the abuse takes on him. Woo boldly breaks into Yoo’s house to access his NewTube account after his intimidation methods have reached an extreme level. He asks Yoo to cook ramen for him, but she trips and gets into a violent conflict with him; cam footage of the whole thing ends up online.
Woo calls Yoo the next day in a furious tone, requesting that he delete the tape. At last, Yoo gets it: their fight video has gone viral, with millions of views. Yoo makes a ton of money thanks to this surprising turn of events. Since the video has also made Woo a laughingstock, he becomes the target of bullying. Woo wants Yoo to help him repair his ruined reputation by giving him a cut of the profits, but Yoo refuses, and the two get into another argument.
Then Woo promises Yoo financial gain as his producer and reveals that they had also videotaped this fight. Yoo and Woo decide to keep recording and making money off of their arguments as Viral Hit Episode 1 ends, although Yoo is clearly in charge of the financial details.
