Sean Dyche is the latest managerial casualty in the Premier League after the Englishman was let go by Burnley on Friday. With the club battling relegation from the Premier League, whoever takes charge of the club will have a monumental task at hand. Burnley are four points from safety and have a total of eight games to turn around their fortunes. However, they have to make do without Dyche in the dugout. For the match against West Ham United on Sunday, U23s coach Mike Jackson, assisted by academy director Paul Jenkins, U23s goalkeeping coach Connor King and club captain Ben Mee have been asked to take charge of the team.

Even though they understand how the club works from the inside, the task of remaining in the Premier League is enormous. This Sunday, Burnley have to bounce back from the 2-0 defeat they suffered against relegation strugglers Norwich City last weekend. “Burnley Football Club can confirm the Club has parted company with manager Sean Dyche, assistant manager Ian Woan, first-team coach Steve Stone and goalkeeping coach Billy Mercer,” a club statement read.

Sean Dyche is no longer the longest-serving EPL manager

Dyche was the longest-serving manager in the Premier League, having been in charge of the Clarets for nine-and-a-half years, overseeing a period which will go down as one of the most successful in the Club’s history. During this time, the team was promoted twice from the Championship, achieved two top-half Premier League finishes and qualified for Europe for the first time in 51 years, the statement added.

The latest development means Sean Dyche is no longer the longest-serving manager in the Premier League. The tag will now shift to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who has been at Anfield for six and a half years.

The 50-year-old Englishman had become the manager of Burnley in October 2012 and has played a huge part in establishing the side as one of the Premier League regulars. Dyche helped Burnley secure two promotions from the Championship, with his last one coming in the 2015-16 season. He famously guided the club to a seventh-place finish in the 2017-18 campaign.

‘The process of replacing Sean has begun’

On Sean Dyche’s sacking, chairman Alan Pace said, “Firstly, we would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Sean and his staff for their achievements at the Club over the last decade. During his time at Turf Moor, Sean has been a credit both on and off the pitch, respected by players, staff, supporters, and the wider football community.”

“However, results this season have been disappointing and, while this was an incredibly difficult decision, with eight crucial games of the campaign remaining, we feel a change is needed to give the squad the best possible chance of retaining its Premier League status.

“Under-23s coach Mike Jackson, assisted by Academy Director Paul Jenkins, Under-23s goalkeeping coach Connor King and Club Captain Ben Mee have been asked to take charge of the team for Sunday’s game with West Ham United. The process of replacing Sean has begun and further announcements will be made to supporters in due course.”
