Another action-packed Premier League weekend is set to take place, with the highlight of the weekend being two big matches at the top end of the table. Manchester United traveling to Arsenal kick starts the entertaining weekend of action. On Sunday, the Merseyside derby will catch the attention of the fans. Besides, there are several important clashes to look out for on a weekend where all teams have something to play for. With the title race heating up, the battle for the European places and the relegation fight is equally intriguing.

Let us look at how the upcoming matches can shape the Premier League table:

Title race

Premier League title contenders Manchester City and Liverpool have home matches this weekend. City play Watford on Saturday while the Reds are involved in a Merseyside derby against Everton on Sunday night. Both teams are expected to win their respective matches, considering the games are played at home against teams that are battling relegation.

On paper, Liverpool have the toughest fixture. Merseyside derbies are traditionally never easy for both sides. Normally, the form goes out of the window in this fixture, as both teams try not to give anything to the other side. However, Everton’s form has been quite poor this season, hence it is not clear how they will perform in this derby.

Top four battle

The battle for the top four places is as interesting as the title race. Tottenham Hotspur have 57 points from 32 games, which is the same as Arsenal from a similar number of matches. However, Spurs are sitting fourth due to their better goal difference. Manchester United are three points behind them but have played a game more than either side.

United traveling to the Emirates is the highlight fixture of the weekend. It does not get any better than seeing two direct top-four rivals fighting each other. The match will have a huge significance in the battle for the Champions League places. Meanwhile, Spurs will travel to Brentford and will hope to capitalise on one of their two rivals dropping points on Saturday.

Relegation battle

Bottom side Norwich City welcome in-form Newcastle United. It will be a tough encounter for Norwich to get something out of the match. Nonetheless, they have to start getting as many points as possible to have an outside chance of getting out of the bottom three places. 19th-placed Watford have a tough assignment when they travel to Etihad Stadium to face leaders Manchester City.

Meanwhile, 18th-placed Burnley will play Wolves and 17th-placed Everton travel to Liverpool for the Merseyside derby. Frank Lampard’s side also have a tough assignment at Anfield to get anything out of the match. Hence, Burnley will hope to make the most of their home advantage on Sunday to climb out of the relegation places.
