Fans are in for a treat on Sunday, thanks to the high-octane clash between Manchester City and Liverpool. The Premier League showdown will take place at Etihad stadium. Normally the home advantage will mean something in football, but the magnitude of this clash means there will be no clear favourite. Manchester City are on 73 points and are one point and a place above second-placed Liverpool. They both have played 30 matches till now. After this contest, there will only be seven more games left in the season for both sides. In an ideal scenario, anything can happen in seven matches. But with the way both teams have played since the turn of the year means these two sides rarely drop points.

As a result, the winners of this clash can gain a significant advantage in the Premier League title race. A win for Pep Guardiola’s side could turn the title race in their favour, while a draw keeps the battle interesting till the end. Jurgen Klopp’s side, on the other hand, will need nothing but three points to leapfrog their rivals. After this title-defining clash, both teams still have some tricky fixtures to play in the remainder of the season. Hence, there could very well be some twists and turns. However, recent history does not favour that prospect much. As a result, both teams will look to make the most of the showdown on Sunday.

Both sides will be heading into this clash on the back of impressive domestic and European runs. Manchester City are unbeaten in their last eight matches and they have only experienced defeat once in the last 22 outings. Infact, Pep Guardiola’s side have kept a clean sheet in nine of their last twelve matches and have scored 27 times in that period. Meanwhile, Liverpool are on a terrific run of their own, winning their last ten Premier League matches on the bounce.

Probable Line-up

Jurgen Klopp has a world-class frontline to choose from for the crucial clash. Their attackers are on fire, ripping apart every defence that has come in their way this season. However, the biggest headache Klopp might have is to choose three out of the in-form four players. Mohamed Salah is a sure starter. But the real question is which two among the remaining three of Sadio Mane, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota will make the cut into the Starting XI. At the back, Joel Matip might partner Virgil van Dijk in the defence, while the rest of the squad looks straight forward to select.

On the other hand, Pep Guardiola has a lot to ponder. Starting from the attacking side of things, he can choose Riyad Mahrez, Jack Grealish and Raheem Sterling to partner with Phil Foden up front. He has four solid players – Kevin de Bruyne, Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan – to choose from for the three midfield slots. Kyle Walker will likely play as a right-back, which could push Joao Cancelo over to left back. Besides, it is not clear whether Ruben Dias will straight away start this match or come from the bench in the second half.
