Christian Eriksen is targetting being part of the Denmark football team for the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar as he eyes a Premier League comeback.

Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during Euro 2020 and has not played active football since, but he is eyeing a comeback soon.

In that time, he’s had his contract with Serie A champions Inter Milan terminated. This was due to rules forbidding the use of a defibrillator in Italy.

But he has been training with Danish club Odense Boldklub, where he played between 2005 to 2008.

“My goal is to play in the World Cup in Qatar. I want to play. That’s been my mindset all along. It’s a goal, a dream, whether I’ll be picked is another thing. But it’s my dream to come back,” he told Danish channel DR1.

“I’m sure I can come back because I don’t feel any different. Physically, I’m back in top shape.

“That’s been my goal, and it’s still some time away, so until then I’m just going to play football and prove that I’m back at the same level.

“My dream is to rejoin the national team and play at Parken again, and prove that it was a one-timer and that it won’t happen again. I want to prove that I can move on and play for the national team again.

“Again, it’s up to the manager to assess my level. But my heart is not an obstacle.”

Will Christian Eriksen be back in the Premier League?

Eriksen has not yet signed with a club since leaving Inter. However, his agent Martin Schoots recently said a return to England would “feel like coming home”.

“Playing in England again would absolutely feel like coming home for Chris and his family,” he told the BBC.

“Christian has been treated exceptionally well by the British public, not only because of his top football skills, but also because of his human values, his modesty and altruism.”

Eriksen’s career has been in limbo since Denmark’s opening Euro 2020 match against Finland. In the 43rd minute, Eriksen collapsed despite not coming in contact with anyone.

It quickly became apparent the situation was serious and the game was stopped as he was treated. The match was then suspended for over 90 minutes but he regained consciousness before heading to the hospital.

He was then fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) days after his collapse. However, his professional career has still been in limbo.
