Manchester United fans experienced a concerning moment when news first emerged that their star attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes was involved in a car crash on Monday. The Portuguese star was involved in the accident when he was on the way to the club’s training ground. However, no one involved in the incident is understood to have sustained serious injuries, according to Britain’s PA news agency. Nonetheless, fans were concerned about whether Fernandes will be able to make the trip to Merseyside for Manchester United’s clash against old foes, Liverpool

Interim United manager Ralf Rangnick, however, gave the fans a positive update, stating that the 27-year-old has trained on Monday ahead of the daunting task against Jurgen Klopp’s side in the Premier League. “Yes, he was training with the team. The accident happened on the way to Carrington. But as far as I know, nobody was injured. He trained with the team and he was okay, and that’s why I think he will also be ok for tomorrow,” Rangnick said in a press conference ahead of the Tuesday night match.

The latest development will be a big boost for the players and fans. Fernandes has been a key part of United’s setup since his arrival from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020. On Tuesday night, United will be taking on an in-form Reds who are flying high in the second half of the campaign. Fernandes – at the top of his game – will give Manchester United a great chance of causing an upset at Anfield.

Manchester United team news

Despite the positive development on the Fernandes’ front, Manchester United will be without many key players for their visit to Merseyside. Scott McTominay, Edinson Cavani, Luke Shaw and Raphael Varane were not part of United’s last two fixtures. Besides, Fred was also substituted in the first half at Goodison Park where United lost 1-0.

Rangnick stated that all five players will miss the trip to Anfield on Tuesday. “Rapha [Varane] didn’t train with the team. He was on the pitch with one of our rehab coaches,” said Rangnick. “But with regard to injured players, we have the same situation that we had in the last two games.”

Liverpool have been playing a lot of matches recently in various competitions. They faced Manchester City twice in the gap of a week and were also involved in the Champions League quarterfinal matches against Benfica. Their latest match was a 3-2 victory against City on Saturday in the FA Cup semifinals. Rangnick was asked whether Liverpool coming through an intense period might have a bearing on Tuesday.

“Well, it’s up to us. We definitely will travel there and try to get the three points,” Rangnick replied. “This is what it’s all about and it’s not about the situation they are in. It’s only about our situation and after last weekend’s results, we are still in the race for no.4 but in order to stay in that race, we have to win almost every game, starting with tomorrow. Although we might be the underdogs for most people, we still know that if we raise our level, if we play a top performance ourselves, we have a chance to get three points there and this will be our ambition and our goal for tomorrow.”
