Arsenal defeated Wolves 1-0 in the Premier League fixture at Molineux Stadium on Thursday. Gabriel scored the lone goal of the match mid-way through the first half. Although Gabriel Martinelli was sent off for two bookable offences with more than twenty minutes remaining in the match, Gunners held on to the slender lead, secured all three points and moved to the fifth spot in the league standings.

Initial stage of the match was a cagey affair as both sides failed to create too many opportunities. Mikel Arteta’s side put their nose in front in the 25th minute, it was a scrappy goal. An Arsenal corner from the left flank was initially cleared by Conor Coady from in front of goal, but the ball was headed back to the danger area by Ben White and Gabriel nudged it from close range after Alexandre Lacazette tangled with Wolves goalkeeper Jose Saga.

In response, Raul Jiminez’s header from Nelson Semedo’s cross went straight to the goalkeeper. Few minutes later Semedo’s left-footed strike went just wide of goal. Bukayo Saka played a beautiful one-two with Martin Odegaard on the right side of the box before delivering a low cross for Lacazette inside the area, but the Frenchman’s effort went straight to the keeper.

Arsenal’s solid defense

In the 69th minute, Martinelli was sent off in strange circumstances as he was booked twice in the same passage of play. Bruno Lage’s side were given fresh hope as the visitors were reduced to 10 men.

Lacazette could have sealed the match with a second as he was released on goal by Gabreil’s brilliant through ball, but the forward curled his effort wide. At the other end, Romain Saiss’ powerful strike from outside the box was parried over by Ramsdale. Eight minutes from time, Chiquinho’s close range header was cleared off the line by Rob Holding.

Arsenal withstood everything that Wolves threw at them. The Gunners have now kept five clean sheets in their last seven league matches. And with White restored alongside Gabriel, the central defensive partnership looks strong.
