Yash Dhull named captain as India announce squad for ICC U19 World Cup

The 14th edition of the quadrennial tournament will take place in the West Indies from January 14 to February 5, 2022.

India, a four-time champion, announced a 17-member squad for the U-19 World Cup 2022 on Sunday. The 14th edition of the quadrennial tournament will take place in the West Indies from January 14 to February 5, 2022, with four host countries. Yash Dhull, a Delhi batsman, has been named captain of the 17-man squad that will travel to the West Indies. SK Rasheed has been appointed vice-captain. In the 14th edition of the tournament, 16 teams will compete for the trophy in 48 matches.

India has won the most titles, four in total, in 2000, 2008, 2012, and 2018. India was also runner-up in 2016, as well as in the previous edition of the tournament, which was held in New Zealand in 2020. The top two teams from each of the four groups will advance to the Super League, while the remaining teams will compete over the course of 23 days. India U19 have been assigned to Group B.

ROHIT INTERACTS WITH U19 PLAYERS

On Friday, December 17, Team India’s ODI and T20I captain, Rohit Sharma, met with the India U19 team. The 34-year-old was present at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru during the team’s preparatory camp. The Indian U19 team will compete in the ACC U19 Asia Cup, which will begin on Thursday, December 23 in the United Arab Emirates.

India’s first match will be against the UAE U19 at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai. Since the tournament’s inception in 1989, the Boys in Blue have won it seven times.
