KL Rahul displayed extraordinary athelticism to claim a one-handed catch of Mehidy Hasan Miraz during the ICC World Cup 2023.
Cricket has always been synonymous with brilliant fielding efforts. However, yesterday it was a debacle on the field as Afghanistan dropped easy sitters. In contrast, today there were some terrific efforts on the field by Team India. However, the top of the list in this match has to be KL Rahul’s one-handed effort to dismiss Mehidy Hasan Miraz. The wicketkeeper dived to his left with an outstretched hand to complete the catch cleanly. Rahul was out of the national side due to a thigh injury back in May. However, the 31-year-old has definitely announced himself at the biggest stage of cricket in some style.
Following the departures of opener Tanzid (51) and captain Najmul Hossain Shantos (8), Indian wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul showcased his exceptional skills by leaping to his left to dismiss all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz off Mohammed Siraj’s delivery. In the 25th over, Siraj delivered a back-of-length ball down the leg side. The ball caught the edge of Miraz’s bat. Earlier, KL Rahul had already exhibited his brilliance behind the stumps. Consequently, this superb catch by the wicket-keeper batsman of India added the cherry on top. It also secured the third wicket for India. After a promising start with a 93-run partnership between Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das, Bangladesh struggled to establish a strong alliance as the Indian bowlers took control during the middle overs.
At 174/4 Bangladesh looks set to go past the 250-run mark. However, given the nature of the pitch, this will be a cakewalk for the in-form batting lineup of the men in blue. Currently, for Mushfiqur Rahim and Towhid Hridoy, the main task is to steady the ship for Bangladesh. With the absence of Shakib Al Hasan, senior players like Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah need to step in.
