India will take on Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Traditionally, India vs Bangladesh has seen many new players emerge at the top of the occasion. Let us see some of the important players from the clash:

Shakib Al Hasan

Shakib Al Hasan is without a doubt the biggest name to have emerged from Bangladesh cricket circles. Being a genuine all-rounder, Shakib is a vital cog in Bangladesh’s line-up. Over the years, he has been a consistent performer for his country. Shakib first came to notice when he played cricket for several villages near his hometown of Magura. He spent time honing his skills at a government-run sports facility. Subsequently, he was picked for the Under-19 squad for the tri-series featuring England and Sri Lanka. He cracked his first ODI ton against Canada in the tri-series played in the West Indies, just before the 2007 World Cup. He scored a composed fifty and bowled 10 tight overs for 44 runs without a wicket as Bangladesh secured a big win over India. Later in the year, he went on to score a century against Pakistan. Shakib was also part of the IPL-winning team of Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012 & 2014. Shakib has been instrumental in his team’s success in the 2023 World Cup. However, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan is doubtful to start against India after sustaining an injury in the match against New Zealand. In his absence, Najmul Hossain Shanto will be the standing captain.

Rohit Sharma

After talking about the Bangladesh captain let us shift our focus to the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma. Sharma is known for his timing, elegance, six-hitting abilities and leadership skills. He is considered one of the best batsmen of his generation and one of the greatest opening batters of all time. Sharma has been in superb form after initial hiccups against Australia in the first game. In the games against Afghanistan and Pakistan Sharma was lethal with a strike rate in excess of 130. Rohit currently holds the world record for the highest individual score (264) in a One Day International (ODI) match. Moreover, he also holds the record for scoring the most centuries (7) in the ICC World Cup. Thereby, Sharma overtook the record of the great Sachin Tendulkar. For his services to the game, Sharma has been the recipient of the Arjuna Award and the prestigious Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna. Under his captaincy, India won the 2018 Asia Cup and the 2023 Asia Cup. As a player, Rohit has already won the ICC T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy. Now, as a captain, he will look to grab the prized ODI World Cup.

Virat Kohli

The next name on the list is India’s talismanic batsman, King Kohli. Over the years, Virat Kohli has been regarded as one of the best batsmen in the world. Since his 2008 international debut, he has consistently performed for India in all three of the game’s formats. Kohli has a plethora of records which includes 76 centuries in all formats of cricket. Moreover, when it comes to ODI’s he has a whopping 13168 runs in 282 matches. Simultaneously, Kohli has also become India’s ‘chase master’.  This was evident in the match against Australia in Chennai at the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. India was tottering at 2 runs for 3 wickets from where Kohli rescued the team with his 85-run innings. Thereby Kohli also broke Sachin Tendulkar’s ODI record for most runs scored in successful run-chases. With Kohli’s form, the Indian batting lineup looks much more settled. Although Kohli fell cheaply against Pakistan, he will be pumped up against Bangladesh.

Shubhman Gill

Shubman Gill is one of the promising Indian cricketers and the new rising star. Gill served as the vice-captain of the Indian Under-19 cricket team in 2018 for which he won the Player of the Tournament award. His match-winning 102 not out in the semi-final against arch-rivals Pakistan U-19 drew praises from batting greats such as Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, and Sourav Ganguly. Shubhman holds the record for the youngest cricketer to score a double century in One Day International. Moreover, he has the highest T20I score by an individual for the Indian team. He made his international debut in January 2019. In 2022, Gill was part of the IPL championship-winning Gujarat Titans team. Subsequently, Gill went on to win the 2023 IPL Orange Cap after scoring 890 runs. Interestingly, this was the second-highest total in IPL history which included three centuries. Batting at the top, Gill will be a key batsman at the top of the order for the men in blue.

Mustafizur Rahman

The last cricketer on this list is Bangladesh’s pace star Mustafizur Rahman. Rahman’s career took off during the 2015 Bangladesh Premier League when he caught the attention of cricket pundits with his ability to bowl accurate cutters and slower deliveries. Making his debut for the Bangladesh national team in 2015. Subsequently, Mustafizur Rahman has showcased his skills in the limited-overs formats.
