With the unbeaten 168 from Heather Knight, England put pressure on Australia on the rain-shortened Day 3 of the women’s Ashes Test. Resuming the match on 137, Knight registered her highest international score before England were bundled out for 297, only 40 runs short of Australia’s first innings as well.

Soon, Australia were reduced to 12 for 2, as both their openers – Alyssa Healy and Rachel Haynes got out to Katherine Brunt. Healy got dismissed for a second-ball duck whereas after four overs later, Haynes got an inside edge that angled in and was caught by Tammy Beaumont at the forward short leg. Soon after, the rain stopped play in the morning session and no play was possible thereafter on Saturday as well.

Earlier in the day, Heather Knight and Sophie Eccelstone extended their ninth-wicket stand to hundred runs before Ecclestone was trapped before the stumps by a delivery off Tahlia McGrath. Meanwhile, Eccelstone’s highest Test score – 34 remained the second-highest score by an English batter in the innings as well.

However, Australia are only 52 runs ahead going into the final day’s play, with Ellyse Perry and Beth Mooney unbeaten at stumps as well.

Brief Scores: Australia 337/9 decl. (Meg Lanning 93, Rachel Haynes 86; Katherine Brunt 5-60, Nat Sciver 3-41) & 12/2 (Katherine Brunt 2-4) lead England 297 (Heather Knight 168, Sophie Eccelstone 34; Ellyse Perry 2-57, Annabel Sutherland 2-62) by 52 runs.
