She won the titles with both the Sixers and New South Wales, as well as being named the Young Gun of WBBL 02 in 2016-17 also. However, after having successful campaigns in WBBL throughout the years, she got the chance to play in the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL 2023) where Gujarat Giants bought her for ₹3.2 crores and she proved her worth there as well.

In 2016-17, Ashleigh Gardner made her T20I debut on 17 February at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. She claimed her first international wicket in the next game, dismissing Amy Satterthwaite. Her ODI debut came on 2 March at Bay Oval against the same opponents. In June 2017, she became the first Indigenous Australian player to appear in a cricket World Cup, playing against the West Indies in the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup as well. However, on 26 June 2023, she took the match figures of 12 for 165 to give Australia an 89-run Ashes Test victory over England at Trent Bridge as well. Gardner picked up 8/66 in the second innings, the best bowling figure in Australian women’s cricket so far as well.
