Tamim Iqbal is a professional cricketer, who plays for Bangladesh cricket team Internationally. Tamim has represented the Bangladesh team in all the three formats of the game. Tamim was born on 20 March 1989 in Barisal region of Bangladesh. Tamim is a left handed batsman and a part time right arm spinner. Tamim is considered as one of the best batsmen Bangladesh has ever produced. He is an opening batsman, who is capable of giving a solid start to the team. Tamim is the first Bangladeshi player to ever score a hundred in ICC T20 world cup. He also holds the record of scoring a highest individual score by any Bangladeshi player at ICC tournament, when he scored 128 against England in 2017 Champions Trophy. 

Tamim was part of the Bangladesh under 19 team that played in the 2006 ICC under 19 world cup in Sri Lanka. After consistent performance in first class cricket and under 19 team, Tamim got the opportunity to play for Bangladesh national team in 2007. It was on 9 February 2007, when Tamim played his One Day International debut match against Zimbabwe. Later in 2007, Tamim was selected in Bangladesh’s team to play in 2007 ICC cricket world cup. In a match against India during the world cup, Tamim scored 51 runs, which helped his team win the match. In 2007, September 1, Tamim played his T20 International debut match against Kenya.

It was on 4 January 2008, when Tamim played his Test cricket debut match for Bangladesh against New Zealand. Tamim’s first Test century came on Bangladesh’s tour of West Indies in August 2009. He scored 128 runs and was named man of the match. In March 2010, during the Test match against England, Tamim scored 86 runs and became the fastest batsman from Bangladesh to reach 1000 runs in Test cricket. Tamim also became the 3rd youngest batsman after Sachin Tendulkar and Mohammad Ashraful to reach 1000 runs. In the 2011 ICC World Cup, Tamim was appointed as the vice captain of the ODI team. In June 2011, Tamim became the second Bangladeshi player after Shakib Al Hasan to play county cricket in England. 

Tamim became the highest run scorer in the 2016 ICC T20 world cup qualifiers and helped his team qualify for the top 10. It was on 26 March 2017, while playing the first ODI against Sri Lanka, Tamim became the first Bangladeshi batsman to reach the milestone of 10,000 International runs. In January 2018, Tamim became the first Bangladeshi player to reach 6000 runs in ODIs. Tamim played his 200th ODI match in the 2019 ICC cricket world cup against India. Tamim has been a part of 388 International matches for Bangladesh, which includes 70 Test matches, 240 ODIs and 78 T20Is. Tamim has scored 5134 runs in Test cricket, 8300 runs in ODIs and 1758 runs in T20Is. Tamim is considered as one of the best batsmen of Bangladesh and also as one of the best openers around the world.
