Sophie Ecclestone was born on 6th May 1999. She plays for Lancashire, North West Thunder, Manchester Originals, Sydney Sixers, UP Warriorz and England across formats. In 2013 she started playing for the Cheshire women’s county team where she was spotted by Lancashire, for which she signed and later she made her top-level domestic debut in 2015 at the age of mere 16 as well. At the end of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in March 2020, she became the world’s number-one bowler in Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket as well. In April 2022, she was signed by the Manchester Originals for the 2022 season of The Hundred as well.

In 2016, still aged 16, she was selected for the England Academy winter squad, and she went on her first tour abroad, to Sri Lanka with the Academy as well. There she took 16 wickets for the Academy in a tri-series against Australia A and Sri Lanka A, including four wickets in a match against the latter team in Panagoda as well. On 3 July 2016, she made her WT20I debut at the age of 17 as well against Pakistan. In September 2016 she was named in the England women’s One Day International squad as well. Moreover, she was on the verge of getting selected for the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup but she was still 17 years old and had another round of exams to go before finishing school. So, her parents and England’s then-coach Mark Robinson decided that she would not play for England at that time as well.

On 9 November 2017, she made her Test debut against Australian women in the Women’s Ashes. In February 2019, she was awarded a full central contract by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for 2019 as well. On 1 March 2020, in England’s final group match, Ecclestone took her 50th wicket in T20Is, and her 100th wicket in international cricket as well. She became the youngest woman to take 50 wickets in the shortest format which she achieved in 34 matches. However, she was the first England bowler to hold that distinction since Anya Shrubsole in 2016, and the first England spinner to do so since Danielle Hazell in 2015. Currently, she is playing in The Hundred 2023.
