The West Indies vs Pakistan women’s Twenty20 International in Antigua witnessed a worrying incident. In the match, two West Indies women players collapsed on the field and were stretchered off. Chinelle Henry and Chidean Nation were taken to hospital. Luckily, both players are stable and are conscious. In a statement released by Cricket West Indies, it said, “Chinelle Henry and Chedean Nation were taken to hospital for medical attention. Both Henry and Nation are conscious and stable at hospital and are being assessed.”

West Indies head coach Courtney Walsh also expressed his concern but expressed happiness that the pair was stable. Javeria Khan, the Pakistan captain, was also relieved that both the women were out of danger. The second Twenty20 International between West Indies and Pakistan saw several delays. But, it was the hosts who won the match by seven runs thanks to the DLS method.

West Indies continue good run

After winning the first match, West Indies chose to bat in the second match. Hayley Matthews and Deandra Dottin gave the Windies a great start. However, Fatima Sana and Nida Dar took three wickets in quick time and WI were pegged back. When Kyshona Knight went, WI were staring down the barrel at 69/4 in the 14th over.

However, it was Chidean Nation that started the turnaround. She shared a 31-run stand with wicketkeeper Kycia Knight as West Indies reached 100. After the end of 20 overs, Windies reached 125/6. Fatima Sana was the pick of the bowlers with 2/18. She was given good support by Anam Amin, Diana Baig and Nida Dar.

Pakistan stumble

During the Pakistan innings, Nation and Henry collapsed and that delayed the run chase slightly. However, Pakistan did not make a good start as Javeria Khan and Javeria Rauf fell in quick succession. Pakistan did not help themselves with some poor running. In the entire innings, there were five run-outs, which was also another record.

Nida Dar and Sidra Nawaz did not convert the start that they wanted into a big one. When Aliya Riaz and Fatima Sana steadied the ship, Pakistan needed 23 off 12 balls. However, the rain came and the West Indies were declared winners.

It was sadness for Pakistan yet again as they came so close yet so far. In that match, which was also low scoring, West Indies held their nerve. Hayley Matthews top-scored with 32 followed by 31 from Deandra Dottin. Although Pakistan got things back with Nida Dar and Fatima Sana taking two wickets each, West Indies managed 136/6.

Pakistan started disastrously as they were reduced to 57/6, with Shamila Connell taking 3/21. Aaliyah Alleyne chipped with two wickets as Pakistan were on the backfoot. But, a fighting partnership of 69 saw Pakistan stage a fightback. Ayesha Naseem and Fatima Sana kept Pakistan in the hunt but it was too late and they lost by 10 runs.

The final Twenty20 International will take place on July 4 in Antigua. After the end of the T20Is, a three-match ODI series will also take place at the same venue.
