George Munsey’s maiden World Cup fifty and a disciplined bowling show helped Scotland beat two-time champions West Indies in their first-round Group B game at Hobart’s Bellerive Oval. West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl first where Scotland put up 160 runs in 5 wickets after 20 overs. And, West Indies could only manage 118 in 18.3 overs before getting all out.

Put in to bat first, the Scotland openers troubled West Indies and made sure they struggle with the bat. Despite some swing, Michael Jones hit successive fours off a wayward Kyle Mayers before getting a reprieve in the same over as well. Later, Munsey hit him to the fence thrice, giving away 31 runs in their two overs combined. And, Scotland’s fifty came at a strike-rate of 10 in an over as well.

However, Jason Holder put a brake in the scoring by picking two in succeeding overs to bring West Indies back into the game as well. And, Scotland lost their way after scoring 72/2 at the halfway mark. Later, a few cameos worked for them where their skipper Richie Berrington, smashed Hosein over midwicket for the only six of their innings. Moreover, Calum McaLeod carried this momentum forward to cross the 100-run mark with consecutive fours off Obed McCoy in the 14th over as well. However, Chris Greaves hit a couple of fours off McCoy to make the death overs count while a 44-ball maiden T20 World Cup half-century from Munsey helped Scotland’s total to a strong 160/5 as well.

However, Nonetheless, Brandon King and Evin Lewis started well by scoring well. But, after a time, the opener ultimately fell in his attempt to keep the attack going, but West Indies had a great start to their chase with King unbeaten on 15 off 9 as well. Meanwhile, Watt and Leask did so well with the ball that the duo scalped 5 wickets in between them. Their efforts sent a well-set King and the dangerous Nicholas Pooran in back-to-back overs as well. However, Jason Holder was the only one to show some resistance but he didn’t get any support from another end. And, his one-sided effort of 38 (33 balls) was not enough to win the game against Scotland, who won by 42 runs as well.
