On Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test between Australia and South Africa at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Tuesday, South African pacer Anrich Nortje was knocked over by a fast-moving spider camera. During Australia’s first innings, Nortje was fielding at the backward square when the ‘Flying Fox camera hit the bowler at high speed. He was knocked to the ground but promptly got back up and did not leave the MCG. Steve Smith was among those who went to check on Nortje after the bizarre episode.

Seven, the host broadcaster, showed a different perspective on the situation. Nortje was fortunate not to be seriously injured when the wire-guided camera, which hovers above the players, went too low and caught the paceman from behind as he walked to his position in the field between South African overs. The strange incident occurred just after Nortje’s fantastic post-lunch display of pace bowling. The four-over spell yielded only 11 runs. Meanwhile, David Warner scored his century on Day 2 after lunch. In sunny circumstances at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Tuesday, Australia resumed on 45-1 in response to South Africa’s first-innings total of 189.

Warner is only the 14th man to play 100 test matches for Australia, but his future in the side beyond the current three-match series has been called into question due to his poor form. The 36-year-old opener had not scored a century since January 2020 and scored 0 and 3 in the first test against South Africa in Brisbane. But he got back into form with a superb double hundred on day 2.
