Australia won yet another major toss. Even though they would have batted first, Rohit Sharma stated that they are unconcerned about the toss. Australia is undergoing two transformations. Matt Renshaw was replaced by Travis Head. Scott Boland goes out for Matthew Kuhnemann, leaving only one seamer. That also meant that David Warner had escaped the chopping block despite speculation that Head may replace him. India makes only one change: Shreyas Iyer replaced Suryakumar Yadav.

Warner made it through the first hour despite scoring a run. He also survived a very near lbw shout that was issued on the field. Shami’s seaming on the inner edge rescued him. And now, with the pitch showing hints of low bounce, India has turned to Ashwin. Both batters have been fortunate. R Ashwin found his stride. Warner has been smacked in the arm and head by Siraj bouncers that are bouncing unevenly. Ashwin has been going through the hitters’ edges.

R Ashwin defeated Marnus Labuschagne on the forward defence off the front foot. Excellent drift, followed by the break. The angle from around the wicket ensures that the impact is in line. There’s also some personal wrangling going on. Ashwin bowled an off-break that he intends to reverse. Leg slip is shown by the seam. When they want to give the ball every chance to go straight on, they bowl the parallel seam. Smith goes for the off-break, the ball moves away from him, and he gets the outside edge. KS Bharat makes an excellent low catch.
