The Pavilion End at Trent Bridge will undergo a renaming ceremony, becoming The Stuart Broad End, in a tribute to the retired former Nottinghamshire and England seamer, Stuart Broad. The 37-year-old recently retired from professional cricket following this summer’s Ashes series, where he made a historic mark by taking the final wicket of his illustrious 16-year Test career at The Oval, securing a 49-run victory over Australia and levelling the Ashes series 2-2.

Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club decided to pay homage to Stuart Broad’s incredible career by renaming the Pavilion End, a gesture reminiscent of when Lancashire renamed Old Trafford’s Pavilion End in honour of his England teammate, James Anderson, in 2017. Broad’s connection with Trent Bridge runs deep, as his father, Chris Broad, previously opened the batting for Nottinghamshire and is currently the club president.

Many of Stuart Broad’s cricketing highlights unfolded while he bowled from the End now named in his honour. In 2011, he achieved his first of two Test hat-tricks, a rare feat accomplished at Trent Bridge during the second Test against India. Furthermore, his career-best performance of 8 for 15 occurred in 2015 when he bowled out Australia for just 60 runs on the opening morning of the fourth Test, significantly contributing to England’s successful Ashes campaign that year. Reflecting on this honour, Stuart Broad expressed his pride, stating, “It’s a bit surreal to think that part of the ground where I fell in love with cricket will now bear my name.” He further emphasized his gratitude for his Nottingham roots, where his cricketing journey began.

During his career, Stuart Broad claimed 190 wickets in 43 appearances for both county and country at Trent Bridge. His contributions played a pivotal role in Nottinghamshire’s County Championship victory in 2010, their Division Two title win in 2022, and two one-day finals, including their triumph against Glamorgan in 2013, where he contributed with figures of 3 for 29. Nottinghamshire Chairman Andy Hunt acknowledged Stuart Broad’s remarkable achievements, emphasizing that his records over the past 15 years are unlikely to be matched by any English bowler, particularly one from within the county’s borders. He praised Broad for his unwavering commitment to Nottinghamshire and Trent Bridge, making the renaming a fitting tribute to his illustrious cricketing career.
