Tabraiz Shamsi expresses anguish over not getting backed by the team management in the T20 WC 2022

I've always been open about the fact that I believe the biggest difference for players to win games in big moments is how much they are backed and how settled they feel within the team

Tabraiz Shamsi expressed his disappointment after the Proteas were eliminated from the T20 World Cup in Australia. The Proteas were set to advance to the semi-finals after defeating the Netherlands, the lowest-ranked team in the Super 12 stage, at the Adelaide Oval in their last Group B encounter. Instead of completing what should have been a straightforward victory, the Dutch completed one of the tournament’s biggest upsets by defeating the Proteas by 13 runs, sending Temba Bavuma’s team tumbling out.

Shamsi, took to social media to show how much the defeat meant to him personally. He wrote on Twitter, “Still cannot wrap my head around it,” Shamsi posted with sad face emoji along with #Broken”. The very next day he tweeted another sad tweet, “Not gonna lie this hurts big time”.

Shamsi’s anguish on the day of the T20 WC finale

Imran Tahir, a former Proteas leg-spinner, has backed Tabraiz Shamsi after the wrist-spinner was left out of South Africa’s ICC T20 World Cup opener against Zimbabwe in Hobart. At the expense of the world’s fourth-ranked T20 bowler Shamsi, the Proteas fielded the lone spinner Keshav Maharaj alongside the four-pronged seam attack of Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Wayne Parnell, and Lungi Ngidi.

Shamsi was not happy about being left out and hit out at the management, he tweeted, “Adil Rashid had only 2 wickets up until this final Played every game Was assured of his place every game Was backed every game …now we can all see the result of that backing he received over the course of the tournament. Might win England the WORLD CUP TROPHY with this spell”. When asked by a user if he was indirectly targeting the Proteas management he replied, “It’s not that deep lol… I’ve always been open about the fact that I believe the biggest difference for players to win games in big moments is how much they are backed and how settled they feel within the team This is just another example that proves it once again in a big game.”
