Fast-bowler Tymal Mills has been recalled to the England squad for the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup, having impressed during the recently concluded maiden season of the Hundred for the eventual champions, Southern Brave. Mills further made his presence felt for Sussex in the T20 Blast Finals, with his pace certainly a valuable addition considering the absence of Jofra Archer who is sidelined with an elbow problem. Ben Stokes is further not a member of the squad with the all-rounder currently in the middle of an indefinite break from the game for mental health reasons.

Chris Woakes has been handed an opportunity with Stokes not available, having made a T20I comeback after more than five years recently. Sam Curran, David Willey, Chris Jordan and Mark Wood will handle the pace-bowling department. Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali are the spinners included. It will be interesting to see how Liam Livingstone who has grabbed eyeballs with his big-hitting performs, with the player a vital member of the batting department which includes Jos Buttler, Dawid Malan, Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy.

“We are excited about the prospect of challenging to win the ICC T20 World Cup. I believe we have selected a squad that covers all bases and has the depth to be successful in what is expected to be a very competitive tournament featuring the best players in the world,” said England’s head coach, Chris Silverwood as quoted by Cricinfo.

“Tymal Mills deserves his inclusion and has demonstrated over the past couple of years, but particularly this summer that he has all skills to succeed at this level. His exceptional pace is a standout, and the way he has spearheaded Sussex and Southern Brave’s respective attacks in the short-form game has shown that he relishes the pressures of the big stage. He will add variety to our bowling unit, and we can’t wait to see him play in a major international tournament,” he added.

England T20 World Cup squad: Eoin Morgan (capt), Moeen Ali, Jonathan Bairstow, Sam Billings, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Tymal Mills, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.

Travelling reserves: Tom Curran, Liam Dawson, James Vince.

“Jofra Archer has had a huge miss in terms of cricket with his injury”

Sri Lankan legend and Rajasthan Royals’ Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara recently discussed the impact of injuries on Archer’s career, with the player set to miss out on the second half of IPL 2021 as well.

“Jofra Archer has had a huge miss in terms of cricket with his injury, and we would really like him to get better. He’s brilliant to watch when he’s playing not just for RR, but generally in world cricket. I think world cricket needs Jofra Archer back because he’s been such a great performer and athlete,” stated Sangakkara as quoted by the franchise’s official website.

“Jos Buttler has of course had a new addition to his family and we congratulate him and the family. We really miss those guys because they’ve been brilliant due to what they bring to the franchise, not just on the field but also off it. With Ben (Stokes), we understand the situation and realize the importance of this period in his life and continue to provide all the support and love he needs,” he added.
