The Indian cricket team will see the arrival of Suryakumar Yadav and Prithvi Shaw in the side for the five-Tests against England. The replacements are being called after a string of injuries for the players who are already in the side. Shubman Gill, who was speculated to have carried an injury, is out of the entire tour after suffering a stress reaction on his shin. The injury happened during the ICC World Test Championship match against New Zealand.

An MRI report conducted showed that Shubman’s injury had not healed and he has returned back to India. However, there have been two more injuries to the side. Avesh Khan suffered a blow to his left thumb on Day 1 of the warm-up game. He took an X-Ray and the result confirmed a fracture. A specialist was consulted for further management of his injury and that ruled him out of the England tour.

According to the BCCI report, Washington Sundar also suffered a finger injury. The release stated, “Sundar had taken an injection on his right-hand bowling finger. However, his recovery will take longer than expected and he is not bowling-fit. He is ruled out of the remainder of the tour.”

Injuries and coronavirus for India

The latest developments come as the Indian team continues to grapple with a lot of injury concerns. On the previous tour to Australia, many Indian players suffered injuries. Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Navdeep Saini, R Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hanuma Vihari were all laid low with injuries.

But, the Indian cricket team stitched together their best performance as they won against Australia. This also included breaching the Gabba fortress for the first time after 32 years. Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav are currently with the Indian team in Sri Lanka for the three ODIs and three T20Is.

Shaw has been aggressive while Suryakumar has continued his good run ever since breaking through to the Indian team during the England series. India won the ODI series 2-1 and is currently leading the three-match T20I series 1-0.

In addition to injuries, Rishabh Pant tested positive for coronavirus and was in isolation. Apart from Pant, an assistant trainer, along with Bharat Arun the bowling coach and Abhimanyu Easwaran have also completed their period of isolation.

India aim to get the better of England

India started their tour to England with the ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand, Despite three days of rain, India still lost the final to New Zealand. After the match, the Indian players were given a break and they went to all parts of the UK. Ravi Shastri, the head coach, watched Wimbledon. Pant went to watch the Euro match between England and Germany.

India has not beaten England in a Test series since 2007. In the subsequent series afterwards, India lost 4-0, 3-1 and 4-1 in 2011, 2014 and 2018 respectively. The first Test will begin on August 4 in Trent Bridge. This is a favorite hunting ground for India as they have not lost here since 1959.
