Suryakumar Yadav, who is used to wreaking havoc on the cricket pitch, did it again in Rajkot during the series-deciding T20I between India and Sri Lanka. The middle-order batter dominated the night, scoring 112 runs in just 51 deliveries to set the tone for the home team. While Surya’s knock helped India win the match by 91 runs, he also entered the record books by breaking a flurry of records.

Yadav has now been the fastest player in terms of balls faced to reach the milestone of 1500 runs, having done so in just 843 balls. However, in terms of innings played, he is the third fastest to reach the 1500-run mark. The 32-year-old took 43 innings to reach 1500 runs in T20Is, while Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Aaron Finch, and Babar Azam each took 39 innings.

3rd Century for SKY in T20Is

It is worth noting that the middle-order hitter is the first to attain the milestone while maintaining a strike rate of 150 or higher. Yadav hit the second-fastest tonne by an Indian in T20Is while taking only 45 balls during the series-deciding T20I between India and Sri Lanka. The fastest is Rohit Sharma, who took 35 balls in 2017 to achieve a century, which also came against the same opponent.

“It’s really important to put pressure on yourself when you are preparing for a game. If you do that in practice, it gets a little easier while playing the game. There is a lot of hard work involved but it’s about doing quality practice sessions. You should know what your game is and prepare accordingly. Boundaries behind are like 50-60 meters, so I was targeting them. There are some shots that are pre-determined but you need to have other shots too so that if the bowler changes his plan, you can have an answer. He (Dravid) just lets me enjoy myself. He tells me to just enjoy and express myself,” said Yadav after a sensational show in the final T20I.
