In a matter of two games, Chris Morris has already made an impact for different reasons in IPL 2021. Even before the tournament, Morris was the big name due to his price tag of Rs 16.25 crore which Rajasthan Royals shelled out for his services. In the first game against Punjab Kings, with Sanju Samson scoring a century and with five runs needed off two balls, a turning point occurred. Samson denied the single and in the very next ball, he was dismissed as Rajasthan Royals lost by four runs.

In the next game against Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals were in danger of losing their second consecutive game. But, Morris and David Miller rescued the 2008 IPL champions. Miller hit a fifty while Morris blasted four sixes in his 18-ball 36 as Rajasthan Royals scrapped over the line.

After the match, Samson lavished praise on Morris. “Had some hopes with Miller and Morris to come but to be really honest I thought that it was tough from there and I think the boys did really well to get over the line,” Samson said.

Firm on not taking a single

However, in the same presentation, Samson was firm about his decision that he would not have taken the single. “Always sit back and review my game. If I play that match again 100 times I would not take the single,” Samson said.

Morris, though, had a different take on the whole situation. “I was gonna run back no matter what to sacrifice because Sanju was hitting it so sweetly. Sanju was hitting it like a dream, I wouldn’t have been too upset if he had hit the last ball for a six,” Morris stated.

The story would have been very different had Samson not gone for glory. Morris is a proven finisher, having helped South Africa to a victory in various matches against England in 2017. His finishing prowess has been superb and he showed it again in the game against Delhi Capitals. One hopes that Rajasthan Royals have a consistent run from this point in time.
