Zimbabwe cricketer Ryan Burl landed a sponsorship deal for himself after he had posted an image on Twitter of his torn cricket shoes. Burl had written whether they could have any sponsors so that the players did not have to fix up their shoes after a series. The tweet was met with tremendous support from cricket fans across the globe and 24 hours later, Burl landed himself a sponsorship deal with Puma. He was quick to thank his fans via a tweet where he also announced his deal with Puma. Puma re-tweeted the image of Burl’s shoes, saying that they got the Zimbabwe cricketer covered.

“I am so proud to announce that I’ll be joining the @pumacricket team. This is all due to the help and support from the fans over the last 24 hours. I couldn’t be more grateful to you all. Thanks so much,” Burl tweeted.

ZIMBABWE’S DOWNFALL

Financial constraints have seen cricket in Zimbabwe on the low for quite a while now. They lost a Test series 2-0 against Pakistan earlier this month in which they lost both games by an innings. Their next test will be a white-ball series in Ireland. The two sides will play a three-match one-day international series starting from August 6 and a five-match T20 series starting from August 15.

The nation used to have a great lineup back in the late 90s and early 2000s. The team included some of their greatest players including the likes of Heath Streak, Alastair Campbell, Tatenda Taibu, Henry Olonga, and the Flower brothers to name a few.

Ryan Burl is a fairly recent addition to the Zimbabwe cricket side. The 27-year-old has played three Tests, 18 ODIs and 25 T20s since making his debut back in 2017. The last match he played was on April 25 in Zimbabwe’s third T20 against Pakistan. Burl did not get to opportunity to bat and he conceded 33 runs in his four overs with the ball.
