Ross Taylor made his foray into the New Zealand team at a time when there were notable departures in the batting-line up. He earned his first national cap in 2006 and was the fulcrum of the New Zealand batting line-up across formats due to his aggressive intent and match-winning capabilities.

The New Zealand great made significant contributions to the Test team, especially on the home soil, and was a part of their World Cup squad which reached the finals. He also showed that he can adapt to the game quickly as cricket moved towards the T20 format.

Taylor announced his plans to retire, last year, through a social media post and made his last international appearance against the Netherlands in the third ODI at the Seddon Park, Hamilton on April 4, 2022.
