Rishabh Pant becomes the highest run-scorer for Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant is now the highest run-scorer for the franchise in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Pant recorded this unique milestone, during the course of the Delhi-based franchise’s IPL 2021 league encounter against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH). The 23-year-old smashed 37 runs off 27 deliveries, in an innings comprising of four boundaries and a six. Pant has now accumulated 2,204 runs while representing the Delhi-based franchise. Former captain Shreyas Iyer is placed on the second spot having scored 2,200 runs. Legendary Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag is placed on the third spot, with 2,174 runs.

Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner round off the top-five list. While Dhawan has accumulated 1,738 runs in 52 innings, Warner achieved a tally of 1435 runs in 55 innings.

Ricky Ponting Hails Rishabh Pant

Pant has earned praise from former Australian batsman Ricky Ponting, who is the Head Coach of the Delhi-based franchise.

“He’s done a really good job, no doubt about it. He is his own man; he wants to do it his own way… I truly believe that he understands the game and sees the game really well. I want him to captain on gut feel because that’s the sort of person he is and sort of player that he is. I don’t want to change it. I don’t want to take that away from him because I think his naturally aggressive instincts will come across in his captaincy and that’s what I want from him,” he said as quoted by the official website of the Delhi Capitals.

The previous time DC and SRH met was the night of Qualifier 2 in IPL 2020. The night Marcus Stoinis (38 off 27 & 3/26), Shikhar Dhawan (78 off 50) and Kagiso Rabada (4/29) paved way for the Delhi-based franchise’s first-ever entry into an IPL final.

It will be interesting to see if they succeed in making it two consecutive appearances in the final, in the ongoing edition of the cash-rich league.
