“Son got inclined to cricket when he was just 3”

“My son got inclined to cricket when he was just 3 years old. He always dreamt of becoming a professional cricketer. We were so happy when he was picked up in the playing XI by Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday. We were glued to TV and there were tears of joy in my and my wife’s eyes. My son has worked very hard. We always supported him. We hope that one day he plays for Team India,” said Abdul Malik, the cricketer’s proud father in an interaction with India Today.

“It is not an ordinary achievement for us. We are from a poor family. I sell vegetables and fruits to make a living. My son has made me proud. Our joy knows no bounds. Even Lt Governor Sahib has congratulated us. I pray to Almighty that my son continues to excel in his career,” he added.

“Can’t even explain how happy we are”

Umran’s uncle Nazir Ahmed Malik was full of praise for the youngster, who had made everyone proud.

“We can’t even explain how happy we are. Umran has made all of us so proud. We have been flooded with congratulatory messages from people. Umran Mallik is a very hard working and disciplined boy. We now wish to see him playing for India. His IPL achievement will also inspire and encourage other youngsters to excel in sports”, he said.

Harshal Patel’s three-wicket haul restricts SRH to 141

SRH are defending a target of 142 against RCB, after Harshal Patel registered a three-wicket haul to help restrict the Hyderabad-based franchise to a total of just 141 runs for the loss of seven wickets. The Indian all-rounder accounted for the dismissals of Kane Williamson, Wriddhiman Saha and Jason Holder in a statement of intent. He received quality support from Australian all-rounder Daniel Christian, who sent Jason Roy and Priyam Garg back to the pavilion.

“I have a couple (of more franchises) left in my young legs (laughs), I’m still enjoying it. Happy to have got a couple of wickets. Roy and Wiliamson were going on well, I think it’s a good effort to restrict them to 140 odd. Lucky one for me, a bit of self-preservation (on the return catch), Jason absolutely smashed that, I got lucky that it came straight into my hands. was going well and it was a good wicket at that stage, was an important wicket as well. Should track this down, I think this was a 170-18- runs wicket, it’s really good. If one of the guys at the top of the order gets 70 or 80 odd, it’s a par total, a good start and needs one of our top-4 to get going. I don’t think there’s any sign of dew out there, the ball did stay dry,” said Christian as quoted by Cricbuzz.
