Prasidh Krishna put in a performance for the ages during the 2nd ODI against West Indies in Ahmedabad. The tall fast bowler conceded only a single boundary in his spell of nine overs and he ended with figures of 4/12. Extracting extra bounce from a length, Prasidh Krishna troubled all the West Indies batsmen. The late swing and variations in his length ensured the pressure was always maintained. India won the match by 44 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Prasidh Krishna, unsurprisingly, won the Man of the Match award. But, when asked in the post-match presentation whether he expected to bowl such a spell, Prasidh Krishna had an epic answer. “I would have laughed it off (If someone would have told him he would finish with the figures he ended with today). I had seen the wicket in the last game. Experimenting wasn’t possible as there was not much to defend. So, I stuck to good lines. I want to be as consistent as possible. I have been striving hard to do this for a long time,” Krishna said.

Rohit Sharma Impressed by Prasidh Krishna spell

Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma was once again impressive with his captaincy. In a pressure situation, he made the right bowling changes. When Nicholas Pooran was attacking, he bought back Prasidh Krishna and ensured the Windies attacking player was nipped in the bud. Rohit heaped praise on Prasidh Krishna and stated that he had not seen a spell like that from an Indian pacer for a long time.

“I have never seen a spell like that in India for a long time now. Bowled with a lot of pace and kept it going. The others complimented him. When you have five bowlers and Deepak being sixth, you always need to keep rotating the bowlers,” Rohit Sharma stated.

Prasidh Krishna’s haul of 4/12 is the third-cheapest haul of four wickets or more by an Indian pacer. Stuart Binny has the best haul by an Indian bowler with 6/4. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 4/8 against Sri Lanka in Port of Spain in 2013. This was India’s 11th straight bilateral ODI series win against the West Indies, stretching from 2007 till now. India will play the final ODI on February 11 in Ahmedabad. After that, the series will move to Kolkata for a three-match Twenty20 International series. That will be played on February 16. India will then take on Sri Lanka for three T20Is and two Tests.
