Pakistan will cross swords with New Zealand in the 3rd ODI of the five-match series at the National Stadium in Karachi. Pakistan currently leads the series 2-0. Pakistan won the 1st ODI against New Zealand, the visitors were restricted to a below-par total of 288/7 in the 50 overs. Chasing the target, Pakistan started off brilliantly, their top three took the game away from New Zealand. Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq started strongly with a 100-plus partnership. Fakhar Zaman went on to score a century while his partner Imam was dismissed after getting a gritty fifty. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan took Pakistan over the line with a five-wicket victory.

In the second ODI, New Zealand batted first against and posted a total of over 330 but this was also changed down by the Pakistan team, Fakhar Zaman got back-to-back centuries and saw the team home with ease. The Pakistan bowlers looked slightly out of rhythm in the last game and would want to get back to sticking to their plans. New Zealand’s bowling has been below par in this series with most of their first-choice players missing from the team. There is a fair amount of inexperience in their bowling lineup as Blair Tickner, Henry Shipley and Rachin Ravindra haven’t had a lot of international games under their belt. The senior bowlers featuring the likes of Matt Henry, Ish Sodhi and Adam Milne, need to come to the fore to spoil the party for Pakistan. We are all set for another mouth-watering encounter at the National Stadium in Karachi.

Pitch

The Pitch at the National Stadium in Karachi has been a belter over the years, the ball comes onto the bat very well and the batters enjoy batting at this venue. This venue has produced plenty of high-scoring contests in the 2023 season of the PSL and the recently concluded T20I series between Pakistan and New Zealand. A typical hot summer’s day in Karachi with the afternoon temperatures likely to be in the late 30s. Evenings should be cooler in comparison.
