The Delhi Capitals continued their impressive form, registering another victory in the VIVO IPL 2021 season by beating the Rajasthan Royals by 33 runs at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Shreyas Iyer played a crucial knock of 43 runs off 32 balls to help the Delhi franchise post a challenging total of 154/6 before the bowlers chipped in with wickets to help their team amass 16 points from 10 matches so far in the league. Delhi’s fast bowler Anrich Nortje, who picked up figures of 2/18, heaped praise on the batsmen for performing well on a difficult wicket. “It was a good game for us. The guys batted really well to get us to 154/6 on a difficult wicket. Shreyas played his part and Hetmyer played well towards the end of the innings, which was really nice to see,” he added, according to a Delhi Capitals’ press release.

The fast bowler added that the batsmen also gave good insights about the pitch to the bowlers before they went out to defend their total. “The batsmen gave us good feedback about the wicket. Shreyas said that it was not easy to hit straight. So we just looked to hit our lengths while bowling and things worked out for us,” he explained.

When asked about his thoughts on bowling with the current crop of Delhi Capitals’ bowlers, Nortje said, “It’s really nice to be part of the Delhi Capitals’ bowling attack. Everyone knows what they have to do and how to execute it. All bowlers, whether it’s Axar, Ashwin, Avesh or Rabada, everyone is clear about their roles. We’ve got two consecutive games in Sharjah next. So interesting times coming up for us.”

Anrich Nortje on Ricky Ponting

The Delhi Capitals will take on the Kolkata Knight Riders in their next match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. Recently, Anrich Nortje described his experience of working with head coach Ricky Ponting in a positive way. Nortje said, “It’s great having Ricky Ponting in our camp. I love his chats and he breaks things down very nicely and makes everything easy to understand. He’s quite clear on what he wants. I am trying to learn as much as possible from him. We enjoy working with him and hopefully, we can grow as a unit with him.”

When asked if he has shared some tricks of the trade with young fast bowler Avesh Khan, the South African said, “Some of us have been looking at how Avesh is landing his yorkers and how he has been going about things. He has been so good for us. It was especially nice to see him land his yorkers in the first half of the season in India. It’s been so nice to see him progress as a bowler. All in all, he has got a lot of skill and I think he has got a bright future ahead of him.”
