Chetan Sharma, Team India’s top selector, sparked outrage after he was caught up in a sting operation by a TV channel. Sharma made numerous stunning admissions throughout the operation. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to take action against Sharma, who was recently restored to the selection panel after being fired following India’s dismal performance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. According to PTI, Sharma’s statements did not sit well with the BCCI’s top brass and may have an influence on the connection between a player, selector, and journalist.

“No player or selector will be comfortable in sharing a cordial relationship even with well-meaning journalists after this sting as the trust factor has been compromised,” a senior BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity. “Chetan spoke a bit too much. None of the top Indian players talks to him. Have you seen him speak to Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma publicly in any training session? He would stand in one corner during the T20 World Cup in Australia and no one bothered to speak to him,” another BCCI source who was present in Australia said.

He was called into the lineup for the match in Nagpur after regular no. 5 batsman Shreyas Iyer was ruled out with a back ailment. Iyer, on the other hand, has returned to the team and participated in his first full-fledged training session with them. Shreyas Iyer has carved out the No.5 slot in Test XI. In 5 Test matches in 2022, he scored 422 runs at an average of above 60. Iyer was India’s leading scorer across all formats in the 2022 calendar year, with 1609 runs.

“It’s always great to have somebody back from injury. We never like to lose people because of injury. It’s not for us as a team, and not nice for the individual. I’m glad that he is back and fit. We’ll take a call after a couple of days of training. He’s had a long session today, he has done some training. We will assess it tomorrow as well once he comes for a light hit and see how it goes. If he is fit and ready to go and take the load of five days of a Test match, then without a doubt with his past performances, he will walk straight into the XI,” Dravid said in a press conference prior to the game.
