The India women’s cricket team is eyeing a historic 2021. They are touring England for a Test series after seven years. The India women’s side will also be touring Australia for a Test for the first time in 15 years. The tour will see a historic Pink Ball Test at the WACA. It is the second time that a Day-Night Test will be played in women’s cricket.

The Indian cricket team will also see the return of Ramesh Powar as the head coach for the second time. Powar did not get a tenure extension after the end of the 2018 ICC World T20 in the West Indies after the infamous spat with Mithali Raj. However, speaking to PTI, Mithali Raj has said that she harbors no bitterness. She wants to move ahead and see the bigger picture.

“You need to think about the bigger picture. That’s how I am. There are so many things that have happened in the past. But, I don’t carry that baggage into my present or in the future. He is the coach, and he has his set of plans. It’s important that both of us are on the same page to take the team forward. Because even his goal is the same: that the team does well in the World Cup. It’s everybody’s goal in the team,” Mithali said.

Mithali Raj and Ramesh Powar’s past tensions

Three years ago, tensions between Mithali and Powar came to a boil during the league phase of the 2018 T20 World Cup. Mithali was asked to bat lower down the order. But, things hit rock bottom in the semi-final against England. Mithali was dropped and India lost by a big margin to be eliminated.

There were many accusations that revealed a schism in the India women’s cricket team dressing room. Mithali accused Diana Edulji, who was then in the Committee of Administrators of ‘bias’. There were rumors of a conflict between Harmanpreet Kaur and Mithali.

Mithali has moved on and added she cannot be bitter for a long time. “I’ve never been a confrontational person, nor am I someone who carries the past into the present. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have survived for so long in a sport, which clearly needs re-inventions and revisions all the time. It’s important that we are on the same page and take the team along. We are at a very crucial phase of our preparation for the World Cup,” Mithali said.
