The all-new International League T20 (ILT20) began on January 13, with the attention shifting from the inaugural encounter to Abu Dhabi, where MI Emirates and Sharjah Warriors square off in Match 2. On January 14, Kieron Pollard’s Emirates will face Moeen Ali’s Sharjah at the Zayed Cricket Stadium. Both captains have plenty of experience playing in various top-tier leagues around the world and will attempt to exploit this in their respective campaigns as both sides strive for positive results.

In terms of dollars, the six-team event is likely to be the second most lucrative domestic T20 competition behind the Indian Premier League. Several ILT20 teams are owned by Indian firms, including the Knight Riders Group, Adani Sportsline, Reliance Strategic Business Ventures Limited GMR Group, and Lancer Capital, the owners of Manchester United Football Club. The starting XI can feature up to nine overseas players, with at least one UAE resident and one Associate player. All tournament matches will be played in a round-robin format before the playoffs determine the eventual champions.
