Despite making it into the playoff stages in heir very first season, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) failed to make it to the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2022. This time, the franchise has made attempts to improve their squad and while they have been successful in doing that in certain areas, there are still some aspects where they need to improve. The team appears to have improved after adding players like West Indies hitter Nicholas Pooran for INR 16 crores during the auction. For a base price of INR 50 Lakh, LSG also attained the services of Amit Mishra, the oldest player to participate in the auction. For the upcoming season, veteran pacer Jaydev Unadkat will also be available, and the team will try to capitalise on his expertise.

LSG finished third in the table during its inaugural IPL season, qualifying them for the playoffs. They were eliminated by Royal Challengers Bangalore, who were in fourth place, in the Eliminator Match. This year, they will be hoping to go a couple of steps extra and win the coveted IPL crown in only the second year of their participation in the tournament.

Strengths

The Super Giants have an incredible opening batting duo in KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock. Both players were in tremendous form last year and scored over 1000 runs combined. They will be looking to do the same this year if they want any chance to win the IPL title. The Lucknow Super Giants team’s batting lineup is one of its strong suits. Rahul, who will serve as captain, was one of the top run scorers in the IPL 2023 and will be in charge of doing so. As some of modern cricket’s most explosive batsmen, de Kock, Stoinis, Hooda, and Pooran can be very important when it comes to hitting in slog overs.

Weaknesses

A few of Lucknow’s bowlers include Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi, Mark Wood, Jaydev Unadkat, Yash Dayal, and Daniel Sams. Although Unadkat has extensive IPL experience and Bishnoi’s spin can also help the team win games, the franchise lacks experience in the bowling department. When it comes to winning games, the team will finally rely more on its batting.

Opportunities

Ayush Badoni, Yash Dayal, and Ravi Bishnoi are just a few of the young athletes who play for the Lucknow franchise. Badoni played well in the opening game of the IPL 2022. The tournament’s previous season saw Dayal, a left-arm fast bowler, bowl well in the middle and closing overs. He will have another opportunity to shine in this one.

Threats

Prior to the season, the majority of franchises lost a significant number of their key players to injury. LSG would like to prevent player injuries and keep the right team balance throughout the season.
