The news of Prasidh Krishna getting infected has come just 24 hours after he was named in India’s standby list of cricketers for the upcoming England tour.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Prasidh Krishna has reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus. Krishna is the latest from all of the IPL 2021 contingent to test positive for the virus. He is also the fourth cricketer from the camp, after Varun Chakravarthy, Sandeep Warrier and Tim Seifert to have contracted the virus.
The news of Krishna being infected has come just 24 hours after he was named in India’s standby list of cricketers for the upcoming England tour. While Chakravarthy and Warrier had tested positive earlier in Ahmedabad, Krishna had returned negative results back then.
However, according to a Cricbuzz report, sources from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and KKR have revealed that Krishna tested positive on returning to his home in Bengaluru. Before leaving for Bangalore, Krishna along with his KKR teammates had quarantined for five days after two positive cases.
“Until he left the bubble he was fine,” a KKR source told Cricbuzz.
The 25-year-old pacer testing positive might put a question mark on his participation in the England tour. He will have to return a couple of negative tests, as per the minimum requirement, before he can fly out to England with the rest of the standby players and the 24-man jumbo squad.
The Indian squad will leave for England in three weeks as the squad also includes the XI, to be selected later, for the World Test Championship final against New Zealand, starting on June 18.
“It will be subject to fitness clearance like Wriddhiman Saha, who too had tested positive while being in the IPL bubble,” said a BCCI source on Krishna’s chances of making it to England.
