Rajasthan Royals were one win away from clinching the IPL Trophy last season, to make the team stronger they purchased nine players in the IPL auction held in December 2023. Rajasthan Royal won the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League but hasn’t been able to replicate the same kind of performance in the next 14 years. Rajasthan Royals entered the mini-auction with a purse of ₹13.20 crore and managed to fill up all their nine slots and were still left with a purse of ₹3.35 crore. The Royals managed to bag some exciting players like the West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder, he was Rajasthan’s biggest purchase at the auction, getting picked for ₹5.75 crores.
Rajasthan Royals also bought Adam Zampa for ₹1.5 crore and Joe Root for ₹1 crore. They have bagged in Donovan Ferreira, Kunal Rathore, KM Asif, Murugan Ashwin, Akash Vashisht and Abdul P A. Rajasthan Royals will be looking to change their fortunes this season and lift the IPL Trophy. Sanju Samson will lead this talented side with plenty of match-winners. Rajasthan were the runners-up last season, they were fantastic throughout the tournament and came with outstanding performances. They are a well-rounded team, be it in batting or bowling, they were one of the strongest franchises on paper during the 2022 season. Jos Buttler has been their stand-out performer with the bat and Yuzvendra Chahal led the bowling attack, he scalped 27 wickets and got the Purple cap. Trent Boult pick up 16 wickets as well and bowled very economically. Most of the players are still in good form and will be the teams to look out for this season.
Rajasthan Royals have been one of the most inconsistent sides in the IPl, there have been several occasions where after putting in a dominant performance, the team has gone on to lose their next game. They have been hot and cold and will look to get in some consistency this season. After winning three games in a row, they again lost consecutive matches to Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders last season which hampered their confidence.
The likes of Sanju Samson, Yashsvi Jaiswal, and Devdutt Padikkal looked slightly out of form last year. RR needed Buttler and Hetmyer to bail them out on a number of occasions. It’s a great opportunity for youngsters to stand up and deliver in the upcoming season. Jason Holder will be expected to do the all-rounders duty and a lot will rely on his performance if Rajasthan Royals want to lift the trophy. Adam Zampa will play a key role for the Royals, he has surprisingly not had many opportunities in the League, having played only 14 games across three seasons. He will be hoping Rajasthan gives him a decent run so that he gets a chance to prove his worth in the IPL.
Rajasthan’s failures from previous editions had led the team to be low on confidence. They did really well to overcome the mental barrier and reach the finals in IPL 2022. However, the were below par in the finals and let Gujarat win the title quite comfortably. After winning the inaugural edition in 2008, the Royals made their first appearance in the final earlier last year, which shows the inconsistency of the team. In all the other editions, they have been eliminated in the group stage. Rajasthan will be hoping to start the season well and keep the winning momentum on their side.
