Jos Buttler has been one of the key players in the Rajasthan Royals side. In the 2018 IPL, he smashed four fifties and a couple of nineties as Rajasthan Royals entered the playoffs. In 2019 and 2020, Rajasthan Royals struggled consistently with bottom-placed finishes in both seasons. However, in the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Jos Buttler helped Rajasthan Royals put on a clinical show.

Buttler smashed his maiden Indian Premier League century and Rajasthan Royals reached 220/3. In response, the bowlers bowled clinically and helped Rajasthan Royals secure a 55-run win. Speaking after the end of the match, Buttler said he had to curb his aggressive instinct to stay longer in the game.

“Sometimes, you would have to swallow your ego and accept that things haven’t been happening like you would like them to. You don’t feel in perfect touch or you are not picking up the ball well. Just give yourself some time and find a way. I like to be aggressive and scoring at a strike rate from the outset but sometimes that isn’t possible. I just try and stay in and to keep the belief that at some point something will click,” Buttler said.

Jos Buttler looks to capitalise in death overs

In the past couple of years, there have been players who have hung on and scored aggressively towards the end. The England wicketkeeper stated that he may perhaps adopt that method if he wanted to be consistent.

“The longer you take the game, the more balls you face you can capitalize at the end but of course you got some great players sat on the sidelines as well. So, you don’t want to feel like you are taking balls and not pushing the game on as much as you can, but you know that you the longer you are out of the crease, the more chance you are giving yourself. I think that’s been the theme of the IPL. Certain players who are very consistent tend to play that way and manage to take the game away in the back half of the 20 overs,” Buttler said.

Rajasthan Royals will take on Chennai Super Kings in a vital match for Sanju Samson’s team. A loss could dent their momentum for the play-off race while a win will make the contest even more interesting.
