Jaffna Kings are the defending champions and were the first team to reach the finals in the 2022 edition of the Lanka Premier League. They have the likes of Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Shoaib Malik, James Fuller who have consistently done well throughout the tournament. The Jaffna Kings are led by Thisara Parera who hasn’t had the best of the seasons with bat and ball but has done well when it comes to the captaincy. The finals could be the day he chooses to fire and take his team to consecutive title victories.
Colombo Stars on the other hand started their campaign in a disappointing way but came back strongly, qualifying for the play-off. The Angelo Mathews-led team showed great character when it mattered the most and defeated Kandy Falcons in a or of day game in a virtual semi-final. Mathews came good and took his team through to victory and booking their place in the finals. Kasun Rajitha was their star performer who took an early wicket and put his team ahead early in the game. The experience of Dinesh Chandimal also proved to be very decisive in the success of the team.
