Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have been struggling lately in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The franchise has suffered a string of humiliating defeats over the last two years. From firing then-skipper David Warner (2021 edition) to ignoring then-assistant coach Simon Katich’s pre-auction plans ahead of the mega-auction 2022, SRH generated headlines for a variety of reasons. But, in the fifteenth season of the league, SRH posted dismal achievements under Kane Williamson. SRH won only six of 14 matches this season, which was insufficient to get the team into the playoffs. This was despite the fact that they had won the first 5 games out of 6.

To outperform other teams in the tournament’s following season, the 2016 champions must provide their best with disciplined performances in the batting, bowling, and fielding areas. Following the team’s terrible performance in 2022, the franchise fired Tom Moody and replaced him with Brian Lara as head coach. Lara previously served as the team’s batting coach the previous season. With the appointment of a new head coach, the franchise would now look to build a new squad. Let us take a look at the three players they might release ahead of IPL 2023.

Romario Shepherd

He is a well-known player that excels in all areas. His brilliant performance with both bat and ball in the CPL wowed the SRH franchise, and he was signed for INR 7.75 crores. However, the 27-year-old cricketer failed to live up to his price tag, as he gave away runs at a pricey economy rate of 10.89 in three matches in the 2022 season. With such poor numbers, SRH, are likely to release him ahead of the league’s next season.

Sean Abbott

He is well-known for his all-around efforts for the Sydney Sixers in the BBL. He is one of the highest wicket-takers in the league. SRH bought the all-rounder at INR 2.40 CR in the IPL auction 2022, believing he could perform with both bat and ball. Abbott made his debut for SRH against the Delhi Capitals, but his ineffectiveness with both the bat and the ball in that game led to his exclusion from the playing XI for the remainder of the season. Because he was unable to build a case for himself through his performances, SRH may be tempted to leave him out.

Kane Williamson

He was below par last season be it with his captaincy or his batting. He was retained for a huge sum, the price tag just does not justify his position on the side anymore. As fas leadership is concerned Bhuvneshwar Kumar could lead the side with a slot opening up for a better overseas player. But it would be a tough call to make for the franchise.
