The Punjab Kings (PBKS) are still searching for their first Indian Premier League title and have not qualified for the IPL playoffs in the last few years, in spite of having a brilliant team which promised a lot but failed to deliver. They have tried out changing captains, some have done well while others lacked consistency. Mayak Agarwal who was leading the Punjab franchise in the last season was released from the squad and Shikar Dhawan was appointed as the new captain of the team. However, they have a pretty solid squad of players, it’s just a matter of them finding the right combinations.

Punjab Kings purchased English all-rounder Sam Curran for a record sum of INR 18.5 crore. Sam Curran became the most expensive buy in IPL History. The inclusion of Sam Curran in the side, will definitely boost their chances of clinching their first title in the 2023 season. Punjab Kings also bagged five other players, which included Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza and Karnataka pacer Vidwath Kaverappa, who has put up some brilliant performances in the domestic circuit. Harpreet Bhatia, Mohit Rather and Shivam Singh are the 3 youngsters also picked by PBKS.
