The IPL 2022 league matches have been confirmed to be played in Mumbai and Pune, with the starting date on March 26 and the final on May 29.
The IPL 2022 tournament venues have been confirmed. Three stadiums in Mumbai and the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune will host the 70 league games. For the first time in 11 years, the IPL will feature 10 games. During the 2011 edition of the IPL, there were two new teams in Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Sahara Pune Warriors. All the teams played a total of 14 league matches. The Wankhede stadium, Brabourne Stadium, and the DY Patil stadium in Navi Mumbai will host the matches in Mumbai. This announcement has also meant that the Mumbai Cricket Association has taken care of practice facilities in Mumbai.
The move to host all the league games in one state comes after the IPL 2021 edition mistakes. Maintaining multiple bio-bubbles in various cities proved to be a logistical nightmare when the delta variant of the coronavirus ravaged India. Bio-bubbles in Ahmedabad and Delhi were breached and it forced the tournament to be suspended. Just like in 2020, the 2021 edition was also held in the UAE.

IPL 2022 will begin on March 26. It has been at the insistence of the host broadcaster, Star. The BCCI had wanted the tournament to begin on March 27. But, looking at the number of double headers that might be there due to many teams, it was decided to begin the IPL on March 26.
That is one major question that has been partly answered. The BCCI has allowed crowds to come to the stadiums. But, how much percentage of the crowd will be allowed is not known. Maharashtra has been ravaged by the coronavirus in 2020 and 2021. Thus, they might initially allow few spectators in the stadiums. Looking at the coronavirus situation, they might then increase the capacity.
The BCCI have kept the option of the knockout venues open. According to an ESPNCricinfo report, they will announce the knockout venues once the tournament is in the mid-stage, mostly in April. But, if reports are to be believed, the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad might host all the knockout matches.
According to several sources, the IPL 2022 schedule might be officially announced in the first week of March.
The Women’s T20 challenge, featuring three teams, normally takes place during the play-off week in the IPL. In 2022, this might continue. The venues have not been announced but Mumbai seems to be the likely candidate again.
BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has said that the Women’s IPL might be held in 2023. But, can Ganguly and the BCCI deliver the logistical assurance under pressure
