The IPL 2022 tournament might be played almost entirely in Maharashtra. According to a Cricbuzz report, Mumbai will host 55 league matches in three stadiums. Another 15 games will be played in Pune. It is reported that the final might be played in Ahmedabad. Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium and the DY Patil stadium will play host to the IPL 2022 league games in Mumbai. The Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune will host the remaining games. It is reported that each team will play four games in Wankhede and DY Patil stadium. Brabourne and Pune will host three games each for all teams.

The move to play the IPL almost entirely in Maharashtra stems from the lessons learned in the 2021 edition of the IPL. In that instance, air travel and maintenance of several bio-bubbles in six to seven centers resulted in logistical issues. The bio-bubbles in Ahmedabad and Delhi were breached and that saw IPL 2021 suspended midway. This time, the BCCI is taking no chances and wants the tournament to be played entirely in one state.

IPL 2022 To See Plenty of Double Headers

The IPL 2022 tournament will see 10 teams in action. This means that with 70 league matches, a double-header might be played almost every day. The BCCI is slated to hold the IPL Governing Council Meeting on February 24 and the schedule might be released on that day. But, there is confusion regarding the start date.

A Cricbuzz report has stated that Star, the official broadcasters of IPL 2022, wants the tournament to begin on March 26. But, the BCCI is keen on a start date of March 27. The reason for Star wanting to start on March 26 is because they want the momentum of the league to be sustained. On several other logistical issues, not every day can be a doubleheader. The end date for the IPL might be on May 29. However, the venues for the playoffs have not yet been decided. It is believed that the Narendra Modi stadium might host the IPL 2022 final.

The Mumbai Cricket Association has been kept in the loop but the main problem might be the practice facilities. With 10 teams in Mumbai and Pune, finding the right amount of practice at the right time might pose a big issue. There might be no other issues with related to hotels and travel. Both Mumbai and Pune have plenty of hotels at their disposal.
