Jason Roy was one of the England players who was purchased by the franchises in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Roy, who had earlier stints with Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Lions, and Delhi Capitals, will not be part of the IPL 2022 tournament due to an extended bio-bubble tenure. Had Jason Roy played, he would have had to be away from his family for close to three months from March to May. Recently, Jason Roy was blessed with the birth of his second son.

This is not the first time that Jason Roy has decided to skip the IPL after he was picked. In IPL 2020, he was picked by Delhi Capitals for Rs 1.5 crore. But he chose to skip the tournament due to personal reasons. Having been bought for Rs 2 crore by Gujarat Titans, Roy’s pulling out might hamper his chances of being picked in the IPL in the near future.

Jason Roy’s Returns Before IPL 2022

Prior to being picked in the IPL, Jason Roy was in top form in the recently-concluded Pakistan Super League T20. He was the sixth-highest run-scorer with 303 runs for Quetta Gladiators, averaging 50 with a strike rate of 170. Although Quetta Gladiators did not win the title, Jason Roy was one of the Most Valuable Players in the tournament.

The IPL 2022 will be played in Mumbai and Pune. The tournament will begin on March 26 and end on May 29. Gujarat Titans are in the same ‘virtual group’ with Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, and Chennai Super Kings. Gujarat Titans will play all the teams in their group twice. However, they are in the same row with Lucknow Super Giants and they will play them twice. With the other teams in the group like Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals, they will play them only once.

The IPL 2022 will feature 10 teams for the first time since 2011. About 11 years ago, Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Sahara Pune Warriors were the two new teams in the tournament. That was the last time the IPL featured 70 games. The main reason for the BCCI to host the tournament in Mumbai and Pune was because of no air travel. In 2021, air travel and maintenance of multiple bio-bubbles saw breaches in player safety.
