The Indian Premier League (IPL) has long suffered from setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, if a new report is to be believed, one of those issues won’t be around in IPL 2022.

The past two seasons haven’t seen a lot of fan involvement in the stadiums. However, that could be set to change for the 2022 edition of the league.

This is because a report in CricBuzz states that the Maharashtra government will allow up to 25% spectators for the matches. It is worth remembering that all matches will take place in the state.

For this to take place, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and Maharashtra Cricket Association (MHCA) needed state government permission.

And the CricBuzz report says that Chief Minister Aditya Thackeray has granted the bodies the required permission.

This won’t be the first instance in recent times of a cricket game in India having crowds. The third T20I between India and Sri Lanka at Dharamshala saw over 10,000 fans on hand to witness the action.

Indeed, there was a case of things coming full circle for the BCCI. “Yes, we have come a full circle,” Arun Singh Dhumal, BCCI’s treasurer, told CricBuzz.

“It was in Dharamsala where the Covid threat to Indian cricket started in 2020. It halted the game there. Subsequently the matches in Lucknow and Kolkata also got called off due to the ccoronavirus threat.

“We are glad that cricket with crowds got revived from Dharamsala itself. It was great to see the enthusiasm of the crowds for both the games. I hope there is no stopping Indian cricket from here,” he added.

When will IPL 2022 be held?
