IPL 2021: 'We failed to execute first ball of most overs,' David Warner on SRH's defeat against KKR

At the post-match presentation ceremony, Warner said: "I didn't think there were that many runs on this wicket. They adapted really well, had a good partnership. We failed to execute the first ball of most overs and then conceded a lot at the end."

IPL 2021: Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner retrospected his team’s fault in the bowling department after they lost by 10 runs to Kolkata Knight Riders. After winning the toss and electing to bowl, Warner saw KKR score 187/6 in 20 overs. On a tricky batting surface, this total was courtesy of a 80-run knock from Nitish Rana.

SRH batsmen Jonny Bairstow and Manish Pandey stood the pressure and scored fifties each, but SRH still fell short of the mark.

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Warner said: “I didn’t think there were that many runs on this wicket. They adapted really well, had a good partnership. We failed to execute the first ball of most overs and then conceded a lot at the end.”

“We lost early wickets, and Jonny and Manish got us in a good position, so we had our chances,” he added.

Warner further admitted the dew on the grass made a huge difference in the two sides’ batting performances.

“The dew made a difference. If the bowlers overpitched, it was easy to hit it, and with the height in their team, and with the cross-seam, it stopped a little bit on us,” he said.

“We would like to have won the first game, but we have four more games at this venue and hopefully we will get used to the square and the dimensions of this ground,” he signed off.

IPL 2021: What happened in SRH vs KKR

SRH captain David Warner won the toss and chose to bowl against Kolkata. Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill set the foundation for the team. The duo ensured a 50-plus partnership for the opening wicket.

Gill scored 15 but Rana kept going and slammed a half-century. In his first match itself, Rana chased a century for himself but perished for 80.

Rana was backed by Rahul Tripathi who also scored a fine half-century. A late but Dinesh Karthik (22 off nine balls) helped KKR to a competitive total of 187 for six from their allotted 20 overs.
