Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga and Singaporean-Australian cricketer Tim David are two players who have grabbed the limelight as player replacements, announced by franchises for the second phase of IPL 2021. Hasaranga made his presence felt when India travelled to Sri Lanka recently for a limited-overs series. The all-rounder accounted for wickets at regular intervals, leaving the Indian batsmen who are considered good at playing spin, in two minds. David was a key performer for Southern Brave in the maiden edition of the Hundred, helping his side win the edition.

The 26-year-old further enjoyed a successful stint with British club side Surrey recently. David helped his team reach the semi-finals of England’s Royal London One-Day Cup, smashing 340 runs at a strike rate of 150.44, including two centuries. Both Hasaranga and the Singaporean-Australian cricketer have been signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as replacements for Adam Zampa and New Zealand’s Finn Allen. The Bangalore-based franchise has further signed Dushmantha Chameera as a replacement for Daniel Sams. Chameera is considered a game-changer in the shortest format, with his ability to strike when it matters the most hailed by experts.

“We have made some changes to the squad pertaining to the situation. We have come a long way and have shown steady progress as a team. The addition of Wanindu Hasaranga, Tim David and Dushmantha Chameera couldn’t have come at a better time in the replacement window, as we aim to continue with the momentum, building on our performance from earlier this year,” said Mike Hesson, who will be donning the roles of head coach as well as Director of Cricket Operations this season, following Simon Katich’s decision to step down due to personal reasons.

The franchise has further signed English fast-bowler George Garton.

Rajasthan Royals announce Glenn Phillips as their first replacement player

Rajasthan Royals (RR) have announced the signing of New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips for the remainder of IPL 2021, to be held in the UAE from 19th September 2021. The right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman from Auckland replaces Jos Buttler who has decided to not participate due to personal reasons. Phillips represents Auckland in New Zealand’s domestic cricket.

He made his international debut for New Zealand during a bilateral T20I series against South Africa in 2017. The top-order batsman has 506 runs to his name in 25 T20Is with a strike rate of 149.70. Phillips has also been involved in various cricket leagues around the world, most recently in The Hundred and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

The franchise has further signed South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi.

Punjab Kings sign Nathan Ellis as Jhye Richardson, Riley Meredith ruled out

Punjab Kings (PBKS) have announced a new addition to their squad, roping in Australian sensation Nathan Ellis. The pacer is expecting to join the team camp shortly after finishing his quarantine. Ellis recently set the T20 World ablaze as he became the first male cricketer ever to pick up a hat-trick on T20I debut.

The pacer claimed figures of 3/34 on debut against Bangladesh in August 2021. The youngster was also recently named in the reserves squad for Australia for the 2021 T20 World Cup. Ellis’ addition is certainly a significant one considering the absence of their two Australian imports Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith.
