IPL 2021: After waiting for more than 48 hours, RCB duo Adam Zampa and Richardson have managed to book their flights back home. The Aussies will reportedly arrive in Australia on Thursday after they managed to book flights from India amid the rising coronavirus cases in the country.

The pair opted to pull out of the remaining season of the Indian Premier League season but were left in a confused state as they did not know whether they would be able to make it to Australia before borders slam shut for three weeks.

According to Sporting News, Zampa and Richardson took flights from Mumbai to Doha on Wednesday and will then take a connecting flight to Melbourne, joining fellow IPL withdrawal Andrew Tye who is under quarantine in Sydney after flying out before the two players.

Till now five players have pulled out of the league because of the COVID-19 situation in India and citing bio-bubble fatigue as a reason. Rajasthan Royals’ Liam Livingstone returned home before Andrew Tye, who also pulled out of the league. Zampa, Richardson were next to follow suit before R Ashwin also opted out of the IPL 2021 to help support his family during COVID-19.

IPL 2021: Cricket Australia thanks BCCI for player safety

Cricket Australia extended their thanks to BCCI and said they will monitor the situation and provide all support needed to the players who want to return back home.

“We will continue to liaise closely with the Australian Government following today’s announcement that direct flights from India to Australia will be paused until May 15, and monitor the situation between now and the tournament’s scheduled conclusion on May 30,” said Cricket Australia in a statement.

“We thank the BCCI and IPL for their efforts to keep everyone safe in the tournament’s bio-secure bubble. Once again, our thoughts are with the people of India during this challenging time,” the statement added.
