Prithvi Shaw scored an explosive half-century to help Delhi Capitals post 159-4 vs Sunrisers Hyderabad in an Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) encounter on Sunday (April 25). Shaw and opening partner Shikhar Dhawan were outstanding for the Capitals once again. However, it was the youngster who shone brighter. His 39-ball 53 included 7 fours and 1 six and he was unlucky to get out when he did. He looked set for a bigger score on what is a tricky Chennai track at the best of times. The innings ensured the Capitals would have enough runs to defend in the second innings of the match.

Shaw’s intent was evident early on, as he took on SRH’s opening bowler Khaleel Ahmed. He began the innings with not one, not two, but three straight boundaries.

He then took on Abhishek Sharma in the next over, scoring another two boundaries after Dhawan had already scored a four off him.

The early start forced a bowling change as David Warner scrambled for options.

Unlucky breaks halts DC’s momentum

Siddarth Kaul came into the attack and very nearly got rid of Dhawan. However, Kedar Jadhav failed to hold on to a regulation catch at mid-wicket.

To add insult to injury, Shaw ended that over by blasting Kaul for a six over long-off. But having accumalated enough runs, Shaw went into a more conservative mode.

He only hit one more boundary en route to his 50, which he brought up with a single in the end of the 10th over.

Yet that was as good as it got for Delhi. Rashid Khan bowled a beauty to get rid of Dhawan and Shaw soon departed thanks to a brain-fade that saw him wander halfway down the crease looking for a second run.

The loss of the two set batsmen affected Delhi, and Hyderabad put on the screws with some tight bowling.

Steve Smith (34*), Rishabh Pant (37), Shimron Hetmyer (1) and Marcus Stoinis (2*) struggled to get going on a slowing Chepauk track, something that has been a trend in IPL 2021 in Chennai.

As such, they could only muster xxx-x when at one point a bigger score looked possible.
